Many Africans' souls have been damaged- Reno Omokri

Reno Omokri, a former aide to the immediate past President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has said the soul of many Africans has been damaged.

He said this in a series of post on his Twitter page, where he claimed many Africans are going around with wrong believes.

He condemned the adoption of white marriage by Africans, and also the adoption of Wake Keeping, for burials.

He wrote;

The psyche of many Africans is so damaged to the extent they believe church weddings are the only acceptable marriage in God’s eye. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible has nothing like church wedding. It‘s a European custom, no better than native African weddings

Church marriage or White Wedding, originated in the Catholic Church in the year 1563. There is NOTHING Christian about it and EVERYTHING European about it. It is not even in The Bible. Your native African marriage is as valid, in God’s sight, as a White Wedding

Those who describe wake keepings as ‘Christian Wake Keeping’ are either ignorant or deceitful. Wake Keepings are a EUROPEAN tradition. Lazarus died and was buried immediately. Jesus died and was buried immediately. Africans should not blindly follow European customs

One of the saddest things I’ve observed is the fact that Africans still bear European, Jewish or Arabic names. I have read both The Bible and Quran. You DONT need to bear a European, Jewish or Arabic name to be a Christian or Muslim. Your African name is good enough

The past is past. You can learn from the past but you can’t influence it. It is immature to focus on what you can’t influence and starve attention from what you can influence. Focus your thought energy on influencing the future by preparing yourself in the present

The psyche of many Africans is so damaged to the extent they believe church weddings are the only acceptable marriage in God’s eye. From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible has nothing like church wedding. It‘s a European custom, no better than native African weddings #RenosNuggets

GOODNEWS: Nigeria army's secured, made north east impenetrable by insurgents- Group

A team of international observers made up of journalists, CSOs, NGOs and social media influencers have lauded the Nigerian Army for making the north-east impenetrable for Boko Haram terrorists to seize any of its territory again. The group however called on Nigerians to shun fake news regarding the insurgency in the north east. It also called on citizens in the North East of the country to interrogate news content before circulating “so as not to embolden the terrorists.”

Nigerian troops rallied to flush out Boko Haram rag tag forces in Guzamala
This was just as the team also showered encomiums on the Nigerian Armed Forces for exerting a lot of efforts in grounding Boko Haram insurgency to a halt, saying that Nigerians should shun fake news saying the contrary.

The Team Leader, Mr Daniel Furnard disclosed this to journalists at a press briefing held recently in Lagos.

The Team alleged that most of the news emanating from the North East about the insurgents is fake news and a direct opposite of the actual situation on ground.

“Also, it was observed that the fake news emanating from the theatre of operation in North East gives the Boko Haram Terrorist a psychological boost and the audacity to make attempts at regrouping and launching attacks in communities.

“It could also send the wrong message to the international community about the efforts of the Nigerian government in confronting the Boko Haram threats to our sovereignty as a nation.

“It is advised that citizens must, therefore, interrogate news content before circulating some as the terrorists thrive on the gullibility of reasonable persons who do not cross-check their facts to reach out to the rest of the world with their falsehood.

“As a group conversant with the activities of the Nigeria Army in North East Nigeria, it should be stated that if this trend is not arrested, it could affect humanitarian works in the area.

“It was also observed that the troops are in high spirit and well-equipped with arms and ammunition. The fighting forces also stated that the Chief of Army Staff is a regular guest in the theatre of operations.

“The Nigeria Army deserves special commendation as well as other sister security agencies. The presence of the Army is well felt everywhere and recent political activities across the country are clear indications that Boko Haram has lost control of the fight which they were practically in charge sometimes in 2015” he said.

The Leader admonished the government and international organizations to support the communities and bring it back and restore normalcy so that everyone can continue to enjoy the dividends of citizenship.

“The Team observed that more people are still returning to these communities and it is expedient for the government to continue to provide essential amenities by rebuilding schools and hospitals.

“It is also recommended both local and international humanitarian organizations should come to the aid of these communities as it continues the rebuilding process, and even a return to their sources of livelihood to make life meaningful for them and for them to be able to carry-on with farming activities” Donald explicated

I want husband not baby daddy- Peju Johnson

Captivating and beautiful Yoruba actress, Peju Johnson relocated from Egypt to Nigeria in 2016 to give her dream of acting wings to fly and since she hit the ground running in  2017, there has been no stopping her as the scripts have kept coming.

As our Star Tracker feature of the week, Peju talks about her career, the pros and cons of the industry, love, marriage and more.

By AYO ONIKOYI and BASSEY EKAETTE

What is there to know about Peju Johnson?

Peju Johnson is an upcoming actress who likes to mind her own business. She’s focused and determined to be the best she can be, as an actress and a woman. I was born in Ile-Ife, Osun State. I had my primary education at Community Primary School and my secondary education at Kingswill College, both in Osun State. After that I started living in Shagamu, from where I relocated to Egypt in 2011 where I was living and doing a little business. I did a bit of acting on the side too.

Why Egypt?

My sister invited me over and I liked the place.

So, what pushed you into acting?

I have always wanted to be in the acting craft. It was a dream that became a passion. Although I have always dreamt of becoming an actress but the desire became a passion after I was given an opportunity in my secondary school.

I was a member of the drama group but I got my big chance when some people came to my school to shoot a movie and needed a student for a role. I was picked for a semi lead role in the movie, even as a student. Also, when I was in Egypt I did some acting too. There’s a branch of TAMPAN ( Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria) over there.

So, there’s TAMPAN in Egypt too. How active is it because we haven’t  seen a film shot in Egypt?

There are many good Yoruba films shot in Egypt. There is a popular one titled ‘Omo Caro’ shot by Austin Emmanuel and many Nigerian actors were featured in it. There’s also ‘Baba Esu’, I think that one is not online yet. I was once misquoted I featured in Omo Cairo and Baba Esu, but I never did. I only mentioned them as some of the films that were shot in Cairo, Egypt. The ones I featured in Egypt are Lawori Baba Ole and Ikanju

So, tell us how your journey into acting started, when and the challenges faced along the way?

I came back to Nigeria in 2016 and met Kehinde Adeyemi in 2017. He is my boss and the person that put me through. Without him the journey would have been very hard but with his help and tutelage things have been moving for me very well. I wouldn’t say things are going on smoothly but I have been coping because acting comes with stress and some other challenges.

How many films have you done since you came back to Nigeria

I have done up to 13 films or more. There are Law of Karma, Gbajumo, Banuso, Wonuola, Farayola, Okomi-otami, Widow, Wrong number, Nkan Elege and many more!

Is it true that you cannot make it in the Yoruba industry if you don’t belong to a group or have a boss who trained you and introduced you?

I would only say it would be difficult but not impossible. Even if you don’t have anybody and God says you would make it, you will. There are people who have come to the industry without belonging to a group or being trained by anyone who have made it. If you have the talent and the passion and God’s grace you will definitely make it. No doubt, having a boss helps a lot but I don’t believe you can’t make it without one.

In your own opinion and from your experience, what does it take to breakthrough as an actor, especially in the Yoruba sector?

The most important thing is the talent and drive. And like I said earlier, having a boss that could introduce you also helps because you can be getting jobs through him. Meanwhile, if you have money to produce your own movies, it will give you fame quicker than any other way round. Because, with your money as a producer you can call the shots and take up any role you want for yourself.

You are very beautiful, do you think it has helped you in breaking through?
