Exclusive: Enyimba’s Aloma discusses defeat to Vipers SC

– Enyimba lost 1 – 0 to Vipers SC in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round 

– Viper arrive Nigeria in two weeks for the return leg 

– Enyimba need to win by at least two goals (if away goals are avoided) to qualify 

After losing 0-1 to Vipers SC in their first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round, Enyimba defender, Idris Aloma has revealed that their opponents in Friday’s game were better than his side.

Although, Vipers SC were unable to win convincingly infront of their faithful, as only a 73rd minute strike by Erisa Sekisambu condemned the Nigerian champions to a 0-1 defeat.

Aloma divulged that the Uganda side were better than his side in the encounter and blamed them not to have scored more than a goal.

“They were better, and thanks to their fans who were so much behind them, but it is unfortunate that they missed so many chances,” Aloma told NaiJ.com sports.

“We were really mesmerised in the first half as we were rendered powerless, but we were still able to hold them on for the first period.

“To say the fact, many of my team-mates were not fit as some were just running around

like pregnant women, and I am so much disappointed.

“We are the champions of Nigeria, and it is so sad for us to have began our campaign in this year’s CAF Champions League on a losing note,” The Enyimba defender said.

Enyimba who are two-time African champions will confront Vipers SC in the return leg in fortnight at the Aba Township Stadium, and Aloma said Vipers would not escape defeat.

“We can’t afford to crash out in this stage, so we will fight with our lives to make sure that we win convincingly in the second leg so as to upturn the defeat we suffered.”

Meanwhile Warri Wolves will host Club Praia of Sao Tome & Principe on Sunday in Warri in the other CAF Champions League tie involving Nigerian teams.
