Colin Kaepernick recently made headlines by kneeling during the U.S national anthem in protest against police brutality and America’s systemic oppression of black people. He continued the protest by embracing the afro hairstyle.
The San Fransisco 49ers quarterback, of mixed race and raised by adoptive parents in Milwaukee, later revealed that he had learned his biological father’s ancestors came from Ghana and Nigeria and that knowledge “changed everything,” even inspiring him to grow an Afro.
