Nigerian pop star Wizkid is having a swell year and it’s only the fifth month in what is already considered a successful run of form for the Nigerian industry.
It is a pleasant feeling.
Everything started in July 2015 when Skepta introduced Drake to Ojuelegba and the latter jumped on the track and recorded a remix to it.
This introduced the world to a brighter side of Nigerian music and before long that remix led to the song One Dance which dropped on April 5, 2016.
With this, Wizkid is sure gaining foothold in the global music scene and it presents many more opportunities for the other pop artistes in Nigeria.
One Dance is the 12th track on the new album Views, the fourth studio album from Drake, which was released by Cash Money Records, Young Money Entertainment and OVO Sound which dropped on Thursday, April 28, 2016.
On April 29, Drake performed two shows in Toronto and during one of the performances with Justin Beiber the Energy rapper announced that the new album sold 630,000 copies in one night.

On the heels of its commercial success, One Dance has climbed steadily up the Billboard Hot 100 chart and is currently number two.
New kid on the block Desiigner’s debut hit is a global success as we speak and is currently number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Late pop star Prince has two hit songs from the ‘80s in the chart as well as Beyonce who makes a debut at number 10 with Formation from her highly rated Lemonade album. The album currently sits on number one position on the Billboard 200.
There’s also Lukas Graham with 7 Years, Mike Posner with I Took A Pill In Ibiza and Rihanna with Work featuring Drake all in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
With One Dance, Wizkid is pretty much achieving his greatest feat yet in music as far as international recognition and music chart history is concerned.
The song is many firsts for Wizkid, Drake and Kylah who also collaborated on it.
It is Drake’s first ever number one song in the UK and is highly likely to make it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 given it currently enjoys the second spot.
The Canadian American last recorded a number one place in 2010 with the song What’s My Name featuring Rihanna.
As we celebrate this Wizkid feat, there are hints from insiders that this is only the first of several songs to drop between him and Drake.
