Top Nollywood actress Monalisa Chinda has taken a bold step and given marriage a second chance.

The Rivers state born actress and single mother of one who had kept her relationship under wrap that many did not get to know of it took many by surprise when she had her traditional wedding introduction in Port Harcourt on February 12.

Her traditional wedding was held in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. Monalisa married her beau Victor Tonye Coker. The bride who was attired in her Ikwerre traditional outfit spiced it up with Ghana kente fabric.

Many of her colleagues graced the event. Segun Arinze, Ibinabo Fiberesima-Egbuka, Ebube Nwagbo, Oge Okoye, Liz Benson- Ameye, Lancelot Imasuen and others spiced up the event with their presence.

Court appearance: Read what Security agencies are doing to arrest Tompolo

– Security agencies comb the creeks for Tompolo

– Reports suggest the Niger Delta militant leader plans to flee the country

–  EFCC moves to seize Tompolo’s assets

Security agencies have mounted surveillance at the airports as part of strategies to apprehend Niger Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo over his refusal to appear in court to face trial for alleged corruption.

Tompolo is believed to have gone underground to evade prosecution by the EFCC.

The Punch reports that the decision by security agencies to mount surveillance at airports was informed by reports that Tompolo is planning to flee the country anytime soon.

In order to secure his capture, combine operatives of the Department of State Services and Nigeria Immigration Service have been directed to look out for Tompolo at the airports to prevent his escape.

Tompolo and nine others are facing a charge of N45.9bn fraud preferred against them by the EFCC but all efforts to get the militant war lord to appear in court has proved abortive.

‎Festus Keyamo, counsel to the EFCC on Friday, February 19 told a federal judge that the whereabouts of Tompolo were unknown.

According to Premium Times, Festus Keyamo informed the court that the warrant of arrest issued on Tompolo had not been ‎executed despite the best efforts of all the combined team of Nigerian police and military officers who had been combing the creeks for weeks without success.

Meanwhile, pending when Tompolo will appear to answer charges of fraudulent activities leveled against him the EFCC, the anti-graft agency has applied to a Federal High Court in Lagos for an order to seize some assets belonging to the former Niger Delta militant leader.

The application dated February 18, 2016 was filed by Festus Keyamo in pursuant to sections 80 and 81 of the administration of criminal justice act 2015.

The fight against Boko Haram Will Be Long – US official

– The US official said that the fight against Boko Haram sect would be long

– More investments are needed for ensuring jobs creation and economic development in the northeast affected by insurgency

Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US assistant secretary for the Bureau of African Affairs, claimed that the anti-Boko Haram battle would require time, perseverance and huge resources.

According to The Punch, the official made the remark in Washington speaking at the Capitol Visitor Centre. She further stated the importance of identifying insurgency causes to develop reasonable solutions. These resources should be directed both at eliminating terrorism and restoring normal life in the region.

“We need academics to help us understand the underlying conditions that led to Boko Haram. We need think tanks to identify creative solutions. We need the business community to help bring investments in the region and to create jobs and spur greater economic development in the affected areas. We need our ambassadors. We need our African ambassadors based here in Washington to advocate for more resources in the fight against Boko Haram, and greater cooperation among the Lake Chad Basin countries.

“This will be a long fight that requires perseverance, and it is going to require strong resources. We all know the stakes are high. We know what the stakes are. But I would say in this case, particularly, a bright future for the people of northern Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin.”

Meanwhile, on the local level, the Nigerian troops have intensified operations to clear the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in the country. It was reported by the army officials on February 20 that in an operation carried out by the 5 Brigade Quick Response Force (QRF) many terrorists had been killed and the their logistics had been destroyed.

Benue Rerun: INEC Declares David Mark Winner

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared David Mark winner of the Benue South Senatorial re-run election held on Saturday.

Senator Mark polled a total of 84,192 votes, to beat Daniel Onjeh of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 71,621 votes.

The returning Officer of the electoral body, Mr Ishaq Eneji, while declaring the result, said that Senator Mark met all the requirements during the conduct of the poll, having majority of the total vote cast.

However, the APC agent contested the validity of the result declared.

Responding to the victory and call for supplementary election in the cancelled polling units, Senator Mark said that his election reflected the will of the people.

The declaration of the re-run election in favour of Senator Mark brings to a close the intense political fireworks prior to the election with both parties trading accusations on plot to manipulate the polls one way or the other.

The re-run election followed a Court of Appeal’s judgment which nullified the election of Senator Mark as the Senator representing the zone in an earlier election held on March 28, 2015.

Senator Mark was the Senate President during the last administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan who was defeated in a comeback bid in the 2015 presidential election by President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress.

Fallen Naira: DPC advises CBN Governor Emefiele to resign

The Democratic Peoples Congress DPC, has called on the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to resign following the declining state of the Naira and the Economy. The party’s position is contained in a statement released by the party’s Chairman, Reverend Olusegun Peters on Friday February 19th.

“The Central Bank of Nigeria under Emefiele’s watch is confused and overwhelmed by the country’s economic downturn. His trial and error policies in recent times are classical example of voodoo economics, if not economic terrorism.

“We demand his immediate resignation and re-organization of the apex bank for effective policy formation and implementation that will stimulate the national economy and steer it on the path of growth, development, advancement and prosperity.

“The present crop of top CBN officers are suffering from leadership fatigue and ignorant of effective strategies to evamp the economy and restore the value and dignity of the nation’s currency, naira.

“It is time for all patriotic Nigerians to stand up and be counted in the efforts to overhaul the economy and save the naira from further depreciation,” the party said.
