Citing the company’s “mishandling” of a number of crises, one activist investor has filed a proposal that Zuckerberg be removed as the company’s chairman, Fortune reports.

Facebook has been firmly in the spotlight in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica data sharing scandal and has also come under intense scrutiny thanks to the proliferation of fake news on the platform, something Zuckerberg apologized for.

Prior to Facebook’s second-quarter results, Zuckerberg had a net worth of $77.6 billion, according to Forbes. After the stock selloff, Zuckerberg’s net worth fell to roughly $68.9 billion, making him worth less than Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett.

Facebook’s market cap has fallen roughly $120 billion, or the amount General Motors, Ford and Target are worth combined.

On its earnings call, CFO David Wehner said sales growth is likely to decline in the next two quarters as it prioritizes new formats such as Stories (a popular feature on Instagram) and continues to invest in privacy.

“We plan to grow and promote certain engaging experiences like Stories that currently have lower levels of monetization, and we are also giving people who use our services more choices around data privacy, which may have an impact on our revenue growth,” Wehner said on the conference call.

Some Wall Street analysts were still confident about the company’s future, but admitted that things were murkier after the results, especially in light of the recent European privacy laws, which went into effect in late May.

Federal Government Okays 10-year Validity Period For Nigerian Passports

The Federal Government has approved a 10-year validity period for Nigerian passports.

This followed a presidential approval to change the face of the e-passport, 10 years after it was introduced in the country.

The Comptroller-General of Nigerian Immigration Service, Muhammed Babandede, added that the extended validity period would reduce the stress Nigerians went through every five years to renew their passports.

“One of the reforms he (President Buhari) has approved is that we would improve the quality, security of our passport booklets. Ten years after the enrolment of the e-passport system, we need to improve the security features.

You can’t keep documents for 10 years without seeing decreased values in them, so we are improving the security features which would raise the standards of the passports.

Though people will pay more, if they can pay more and get the booklets quickly, it’s good with improved security for 10 years validity. They would pay more but the document would be available, that’s good,” the CG explained.

Bishop Oyedepo Tells President Buhari To ‘Get Out Of Office’

One of Nigeria’s renowned clerics Bishop David Oyedepo has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign because of the incessant killings by militant herdsmen.

The founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, aka Winners’ Chapel, made this call in a YouTube video posted by the church’s official page.

 

Oyedepo spoke on the theme, “Enough is enough.”

15 APC Senators, And 37 House Of Reps Members All Dump APC

Fourteen senators of APC, on Tuesday, defected from their party to PDP.

The senators in a joint letter to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, made their intention known. The senators are Dino Melaye, Barnabas Gemade, Ibrahim Danbaba, Shaaba Lafiaji.

Others are Mohammed Shitu, Rafiu Ibrahim, Suleiman Hunkuyi, Isa Misau, Monsurat Sunmonu, Soji Akanbi, Usman Nafada, Musa Kwankwaso, Suleiman Nazif and Lanre Tejuosho. Abdulazaz Nyako also announced his defection.

 

A total of 37 members of the House of Representatives have defected APC.

Of this number, 32 joined PDP, while four joined ADC. One later announced he was also leaving the APC but did not state his new party.

Announcing their defection on Tuesday during plenary, the first 36 lawmakers cited division at all levels of the APC as the reason for their defection.

Prominent among the defectors are Sani Rano, Barry Mpigi, Ali Madaki, Dickson Tackighir, Hassan Saleh, Danburam Nuhu, Mark Gbilah, Razak Atunwa, Ahmed Bichi, Abdulsamad Dasuki and Zakari Mohammed.

Neither the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, nor his deputy, Yusuff Lasun, was named among the defectors.

Few minutes after the 36 announced their defection, the chairman of the House of Representatives Rules and Business, Orker Jev, announced he was also resigning from the APC.

He cited division in the APC as his reason for leaving the party. He however did not announce the party he is moving to.

A man escaped lynching in Bahati, Nakuru, Kenya, on Wednesday after a mob accosted him for bestiality.

John Mwaura, 29, was reportedly caught pants down after he sneaked in the compound to engage in the unnatural act with a neighbour’s cow.

On being pressed by the locals, the bachelor confessed to having committed the act saying this was the fifth cow he had accosted sexually. “It is not my first time. I have had sex with four other cows in Ndunduri and Wanyororo. I am pleading for mercy,” he said.

The owner, who had gone to the farm to harvest her crops, came back and found the man zipping up his pair of trousers. The woman descended on him with blows, stones, and sticks, leaving him with critical injuries.

“Don’t kill me…let me surrender my piece of land to pay for the cow,” Mwaura said. “I always have sex with the cow whenever I feel like because I fear girls might infect me with HIV.”

The man further said he is not married adding that he was overwhelmed by the urge to have sex. On Thursday, He pleaded guilty to the offense in court before Nakuru Chief Magistrate Josephat Kalo The case will be mentioned again on July 26, 2018.

“I kill For ₦10k Each And Wear Hijab To Kill Targets” – 20-yr-old cultist

A 20-year-old self-confessed sniper of the dreaded Eiye confraternity in Lagos State, Mariam Abiola, Monday revealed how she killed four rival gang members in the Ilasamaja area of the state.

Abiola, who admitted dropping out of school in Senior Secondary School 3, was arrested on Monay morning. The girl, who was arrested together with three male accomplices, said it was easier for her to operate unnoticed wearing a hijab.

She told police interrogators that a member of her gang she described as an herbalist always prepared charms for her before she embarked on any major operation.

Abiola narrated, “I was arrested early last year in Mushin. I had run away from my parents’ home in Abeokuta, Ogun State, when I was 15 years.

After I fled to Lagos in search of work, I was staying with one brother Wasiu, who is also a gang member. Another brother, Sadiq, said he would introduce me to a job that would be fetching me money.

He said I needed to blend into the system by being a member of the Eiye confraternity. I agreed. Thereafter, Sadiq taught me how to use a gun. By the time I went through training three times, I knew how to fire accurately.

Anytime I was going to kill, Sadiq would give me the person’s picture and send the address to my phone. I usually wore a white male flowing gown and white hijab whenever we were going to kill any rival member.

We always went in a group of four, including Wasiu and Segun. The gun was usually tucked inside my white flowing gown. On getting to the target’s house, which was usually at night, other members would jump through the fence and open the gate for me.

I would enter and fire the person in the chest and forehead before leaving there. At the end of each killing, Sadiq would pay me N10,000 and five others N20,000. I had struck at Fabiyi, Hassan and Aje streets and another street, all in Ilasamaja.

Before we leave for any killing, we would visit the herbalist who would give us charms to put residents to sleep until the operation is concluded. I never felt bad killing anybody.”

Nigerian Police, Civil Defense Demand N1Billion To Feed Horses And Dogs Etc Ahead Of 2019 Elections

Details of the 2018 virement proposal sent to the National Assembly for the 2019 general election by President Muhammadu Buhari have emerged.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) will need N310m to feed and administer drugs to dogs that will be deployed in states. NSCDC needs N1.2bn in total.

The Nigeria Police Force will require N7m to feed 50 horses that would be used for patrol during the polls.

The total police budget for the elections stands at N30.5bn; the Office of the National Security Adviser, N4.2bn; the Department of State Services, N12.2bn; NSCDC, N3.5bn and the Nigeria Immigration Service, N2.6bn.

The virement request reads in part, “Medical and general expenses for dogs, N143,782,000; feeding of dogs: N166,315,000.

“Hiring of speedboats: N499,500,000; welfare packages (contingency of N7,000 per state and FCT) N259m; accommodation allowances for monitors: N185,000,000.”

Police election budget stands at N679m, with N7.7m earmarked for feeding of horses and N100m for printing of non-security materials.

The police also asked for N87.5m for the maintenance of aircraft and N407m for maintenance of the vehicles to be used for election monitoring.

The budget states in part, “Feeding of 50 horses: N7, 719, 454; maintenance of existing vehicles for 2019 elections for the period of 20 days: N407, 400, 000.”

NIS also requested N126m for printing name tags for its personnel that would be involved in the elections while N166m was requested for pre-election training.

The DSS, in the virement request would need N2.9bn to prepare for the polls this year.

The DSS requested N2.2bn for local election and travel allowances, while N100m was earmarked for perception management involving stakeholders, political parties and traditional/religious leaders.

About N120m was budgeted for fuelling generators during the elections which will last for 21 days while N100m was set aside for post-election investigations.

In the N1.6bn virement details, the ONSA requested N250m for a national election crisis response exercise involving all security agencies and relevant ministries, departments and agencies.

About N200m was budgeted for the deployment of equipment including satellites while N130m was earmarked for election monitoring.

When asked about his relationship with Mikel, he said: “It is an issue, but we don’t know what to do. It’s over five years now without a phone call from him to me. But he communicates with his mother.

There is nothing I have not done to fix it. God has told me that I should not feel hurt. When we start to talk about it, I say, ‘Well, as long as I see him on TV, doing great, no problem’.

This is the story of 15-year-old Thomas Owusu, who is on a journey to make a name for himself with his talent in crafting.

Young Thomas Owusu has put his special set of skills to ingenious use, making a standing fan out of wood and plastic materials that runs on electricity.

Thomas is a class 5 pupil of the Bokabo D/A Primary School at Sefwi Bokabo, in the Bodi District of the Western Region of Ghana.

Overnight, the extremely talented boy has become an internet sensation, with many commending him for his innovation.

Thomas built the entire standing fan in a space of two days, crafting the wood to fit the shape of the fan and moulding the plastic fan blade all by himself.

He has already made two of these fans and is hoping to add a few more.

Both of Thomas’ parents are cocoa farmers, and he helps them on them farm when he is not in school.

Thomas hopes to make other wooden fans that run solely on batteries and says those will be “easier to build.”

His teacher, Max Owusu describes him as “a genuis, who believes in himself, very positive-minded and result oriented.”

In terms of his academics, his teacher says “Thomas is an average student with a strong interest in Mathematics, science and crafting.

Pictures of his works were originally posted on social media by his teacher Max Owusu and the post has since been shared over 2900 times, creating huge buzz around the prodigy.

Mr. Max Owusu posted on Facebook ” See this young but creative electrical engineer at my school who designed a wooden stand fan that can be operated electronically. I believe in a future that is realized today not tomorrow.”

Some social media users, impressed with his work, are calling on the government to support young Thomas Owusu to unearth the innovator in him.

His teacher tells me, there are also looking out for funding and sponsorship to help Thomas showcase his talent to the world.

Thomas has interest in football, but crafting and innovation come first for him and he hopes to become an engineer in future.

EFCC Vows To Arrest Fayose After He Used A Whopping N1.3billion To Build This Poultry

Just exactly as many people have always predicted it, that Fayose can’t eat his cake and have it.

Just less than 24 hours after INEC declared APC’s Fayemi as the winner of the Ekiti state Gubernatorial election that held on Saturday 14th of July, the EFCC Spokesperson took to their official verified twitter account to anticipate the investigation of Ex Gov Fayose.

In A Tweet that has now been deleted EFCC vowed to investigate Fayose on the Ekiti Poultry project worth over 1.2 Billion Naira.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has ‘subtly’ threatened to go after Ayodele Fayose, outgoing Governor of Ekiti State, over an alleged N1.3billion fraud in the Integrated Poultry Project.

The commission, through its official Twitter handle, said the case file had now been dusted off the shelf now that the soon-to-become ex-governor would no longer be cover by immunity.

“The parri is over; The cloak of immunity torn apart, and the staff broken. #Ekiti Integrated Poultry Project/Biological Concepts Limited N1.3bn fraud case file dusted off the shelves. See you soon,” EFCC tweeted.

Back in 2005, the anti-graft agency had filed a case against Fayose, alleging that he was involved in the diversion of N1.3bn poultry project.

EFCC alleged that Fayose used a company, Biological Concepts Limited, owned by one Gbenga James believed to be Fayose’s friend, to defraud Ekiti State of N1.3bn.

The alleged sum was purportedly used to build houses and cars.

The case was first filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos but it was later transferred to Ado-Ekiti sometime in 2015.

Justice Adamu Hobon presided over the matter in Ado-Ekiti court while it was live.

In one of the hearings, a witness of the EFCC, Abubakar Madaki, chronicled how Fayose diverted N860million from the alleged sum during his first term as Governor

Fayose supposedly diverted the money through his wife, Feyisetan Fayose, and his then Deputy Governor, Biodun Olujimi, who is now a senator in the current National Assembly.

According to one of the documents tendered by EFCC before justice Hobson, Olujimi also collected $50,000 from the Federal Ministry of Works.
